The Man Behind the Curtain was first awarded a Michelin star in October 2015 (and three AA Rosettes in 2016) 2023 sees the eighth year with a Michelin star.

Set in the old Engine House on the edge of York’s Museum Gardens, The Star Inn The City has an enviable riverside position. The Brasserie-style all-day restaurant opened in 2013 after Andrew Pern of the Michelin-starred Star Inn at Harome arrived to establish a food-led celebration destination in one of York’s unique locations. Located alongside York’s historic Lendal Bridge, the restaurant’s splendid terrace is the perfect location for fair weather pre-or post-dinner drinks and watching the river Ouse flow by.
The Star Inn The City is within easy walking distance of York Railway Station and Marygate Car park via Museum Gardens or the riverside path.

The Black Swan Oldstead is a Michelin starred restaurant with rooms in the North York Moors National Park with an amazing two-acre kitchen garden. Chef Tommy Banks’ talent is remarkable.
He was once Britain’s youngest Michelin-starred chef and has twice won the Great British Menu. In 2021, The Black Swan Oldstead was also awarded a Green Michelin Green star. Michelin awards Green stars for ‘sustainable gastronomy’. The Green Star award recognises restaurants with a focus on environmental practices.
As a British first, The Black Swan at Oldstead was named the Best Restaurant in the World on TripAdvisor, based on millions of reviews and opinions beating Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck and Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir.
