Unusually for a Michelin-starred restaurant, it has separate vegetarian and vegan menus. The Michelin Star Yorkshire Wolds establishment is set in beautiful countryside, near to the historic town of Beverley in gorgeous East Yorkshire countryside.
Acclaimed chef James MacKenzie runs the kitchen and his wife, Kate is in charge of front of house. This historic destination establishment currently holds the only Michelin star in East Yorkshire.
A wide range of food is available at the Pipe and Glass, from fine dining with wine to a steak sandwich and a pint of real ale, with hearty Yorkshire portions for diners with a big appetite.
Producing beautifully executed, locally inspired modern Yorkshire cuisine, James MacKenzie is a champion of locally sourced produce, utilising traditional, often generally underused ingredients and dishes, reflecting his interest in his Yorkshire surroundings and local food customs.
The traditional bar, with its dark beams, open fire, and copper pots – just the venue for sandwiches and hand-pulled ales or delicious wine, or perhaps the restaurant menu. In the restaurant or garden, James MacKenzie’s daily specials and atmosphere take the ambience to an exceptional level.
A wide range of quality ingredients are abundant in this part of Yorkshire – from fresh fish sourced from the nearby east coast, to locally grown fruit and vegetables – all of which are reflected in their carefully crafted dishes.
Kate MacKenzie works closely with wine producers to deliver the quality and style required to complement their menus, and there is a wide selection of craft and real ales. There is an innovatively suggestive selection wine list – split into sections such as “Cow, Pig & Sheep” and “Game and Poultry.”
James and Kate McKenzie have also taken care to create a family-friendly environment in the pub and offer their extensive Little People’s menu.
The building dates from the 17th century and the airy conservatory has a magnificent long table for up to 28 people, and the beautiful garden offers plenty of outdoor seating for the warmer months.
Upstairs, there is a private dining room available, with its own lounge and demonstration kitchen.
Please note, they do not take restaurant reservations online and bar area tables are currently available on a pre-booked basis only.
Are dogs allowed in the Pipe and Glass? No, they do not allow dogs within the Pipe and Glass – this includes the rooms, bar area and restaurant.
